Understanding Indeed’s Healthy Marketplace Initiative and New Job Posting Policy

As part of its ongoing commitment to creating a balanced and effective job marketplace, Indeed has introduced the Healthy Marketplace initiative and a new policy to ensure job seekers find the most relevant opportunities while employers connect with the right candidates. These changes are designed to enhance the overall experience on the platform by reducing duplicate job postings and improving the quality of job listings.

What is the Healthy Marketplace Initiative?

Indeed’s Healthy Marketplace initiative is aimed at distributing job visibility more fairly across both sponsored and organic job listings. This initiative addresses several key areas:

  1. Improved Distribution and Predictability:
    • Indeed is optimizing how job applications are distributed to ensure a balanced flow of applicants. This helps prevent situations where some job postings receive an overwhelming number of applications while others receive too few.
  2. Relevance and Uniqueness:
    • Job postings must be accurate, complete, and relevant, including detailed information such as job titles, descriptions, salary ranges, work location, and schedule requirements. Repeated or similar job postings are discouraged to maintain high-quality listings and avoid cluttering the platform.
  3. Sponsored Jobs Visibility:
    • Sponsored jobs receive priority visibility, staying visible longer and attracting more qualified candidates. Sponsoring a job increases its chances of being seen by the right job seekers, thereby improving the likelihood of making a successful hire.
  4. Engagement and Responsiveness:
    • Employers are encouraged to keep job postings updated and respond quickly to applicants. Doing so can earn a “Responsive Employer Badge,” enhancing the visibility and attractiveness of their job postings.

New Job Posting Policy Effective October 2024

In line with these improvements, Indeed is introducing a new policy for the United States to further streamline job visibility:

  1. Single Source of Organic Visibility:
    • Starting in October 2024, jobs indexed to Indeed from sources such as career sites or Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) will continue to receive organic visibility. However, any job posted directly on Indeed by clients whose jobs are already indexed will now need to be sponsored to be visible. This means that free traffic will no longer be available for both indexed and directly posted jobs.
  2. Impact on Clients:
    • Clients who both index jobs through an ATS or career site and also post jobs directly on Indeed will be affected. These clients will receive notifications via email and within the Indeed interface, informing them that their directly posted jobs will require sponsorship to maintain visibility.
  3. What to Do Next:
    • While no immediate action is required, it’s important for clients to understand how to maximize the visibility of their job postings by integrating their ATS with Indeed. Clients may choose to leverage their ATS as the primary source for job postings on Indeed to ensure continued organic visibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Indeed removing organic traffic for all job postings?

No, organic traffic is still available. Clients who wish to continue receiving organic traffic on their indexed jobs should utilize ATS integrations and manage their Indexed Jobs effectively. If the indexed jobs do not fully represent the client’s hiring needs, it is advisable to update the ATS accordingly.

How does this policy change affect my clients?

Clients who are impacted by this change should reach out to their Indeed representatives for assistance. Encourage them to leverage Indeed’s Sponsored Job Integration and other tools to maintain job visibility.
